The Call Center Industry

The industry that works within, supports, or reports on Call Centers and Call Center related activities.

The Call Center industry is now large and growing. The Gartner Group estimates that approximately three percent of the American workforce is employed in this industry.. Business practices introduced in the early eighties and a consumer base that has grown more sophisticated about branding and positioning campaigns have reduced the effects of loyalty among consumers. As consumer loyalty continues to diminish, success has become more and more predicted by how well a customer is served. That is, how quickly and effortlessly the consumer's transactions with the company are completed. Also, while the public accepts some problems, the level of attention the company pays to fixing problems quickly is a key factor in determining consumer satisfaction. These trends have combined to insure that the Call Center industry will continue to grow. Internationally, the trend in Europe and Latin American countries is about five to ten years behind the United States.
