A tool used in philosophy to help in understanding complex systems. It attempts to explain the nature of complex things by reducing them to descriptions of the nature of the simpler or more fundamental things comprising them. Reductionism can be applied to things such as phenomena, physical objects, meanings, concepts, explanations, and theories.
