I like this very much.
When I reset the colour of the eyelids they are still blue! Though the border´s brown.
My feed is in Spanish and has accents over letters. Everything is set to display these correctly on the main screen but they do not show correctly in the feed.
Thank you if you can help. If you have time.
Regards
Mike

Mike,

Should work...

But of course, these "example scrollers" were quick and dirty, just to demonstrate how scroller scripts could be easily designed to integrate with external JSMsg feeds.

Do you have a link to the page where this is occurring?

Your quick and dirty is my very strenuous effort to get an output!
I could send you the file but I am not yet ready to put it all up on the web. By the weekend I hope. I have sent you the html file.
Only if you can spare the time.
Perhaps you could check that I have complied with your copyright requirements in what I have copied.
With thanks again
Mike

Mike,

Did you get my email on this? Did it help?

Thank you. I have got the colours now, and know more about java comment lines.
The output is still not displaying accents though.
Thanks for your time and your help.

Mike,

re: "The output is still not displaying accents though."

hmmm...

It seems like your content-type (8859-1 i'd assume?) is not being inherited by the scroller frame.

I always have to look these up. Hopefully there's some way to get them in there using CSS. Worse case, if you can't get a content-type in there, we may have to do something with the eyelid script.

Please keep me in the loop on your progress with this.

Yes my encoding is set to 8859 and accents appear in different places, but not in the scroller frame. But I am getting near to having a really good web page ..

I am reluctant to ask after you have helped me get the other things working, but I wonder if you have had any further thoughts on the encoding problem. I am not making any progress at the moment.
Best wishes

Mike,

If there's a test page somewhere that you can email me a link to that would be helpful...

I have tried the standard scroller as well, brilliant but same problem.
I would change the font if I could but I don´t think it is user editable. And the background colour?
Just small points. Thanks for the help with the Java comments.

Mike,

Well, it looks like the party's over when it comes to using Latin-1 (8859-1).

It was once the case that even with feeds that claimed to be utf-8, the real encoding was 8859-1. It was only a matter of time with such an unstable state of affairs, before somebody blinked.

You're page will work fine if you change it to utf-8 encoding. You can test this by going to view->encoding->utf-8 (or some similar menu navigation) on your browser.

To change your page encoding for everyone (without having to ask them to do it manually), you'll just need to put:

<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8">

in your page's HEAD section.

I have entered this code into the HEAD of the source and it made no difference. I changed the encoding on the browser and the output was then OK, but there was a strange corruption of some letters with an accent, though all theothers were OK. I am sending you an image of this corruption. The original word is ˇINFORMACIÓN! Both the ˇ and the ÓN are corrupted. I don´t know if there is a dependency on where exactly you put the extra line of code, I put it very near the top.
Sorry about this.

Mike,

Not a problem!

I'm still seeing this:

<meta http-equiv=Content-Type content="text/html; charset=windows-1252">

at the top of the test page you emailed me a link to.

Obviously the Windows set will, in true MS form, not be compatible with any standard, platform-independent encodings out in the world. Also, if it's like most things MS, it may not even be compatible across different Windows platforms.

If you see corrupt letters, you will simply need to convert those to utf-8 encodings, or use entities with the UCS-2 encodings. Google on "Unicode" or "utf-8 in html" or some such to learn how to insert these into your page html.

You Americans work very late! It´s 3 am here in Spain and I have just loaded the whole app on to the web because I had promised to and it had taken me too long. Of course this problem is present and I have to fix it. But in view of the time I will study your reply tomorrow or Tuesday. I am sure I am getting wiser, and I thank you for this.
