I have managed to lose some emails belonging to a friend. I was setting up his new computer and tried saving the emails from his old computer by exporting them to a CSV file. I titled the files messages, messages1 and messages2. Now I cant open them. I tried your convert to xml page but they wont paste. Have I lost totally lost them?
Oddly enough I have been able to read the messages on the first file through wordpad, but messages1 and messages2 wont open. Any suggestions??

Mikep,

I've moved this thread to the "other people's products" page.

You seem to have the data in CSV format. I don't know if there's a way to get it back into the e-mail client.

What product is your friend using for his e-mail client? Did you create the CSV file using his e-mail client's "export" function?

He had Outlook Express 6 on his old computer. I exported the messages to a csv file and then put them on cd to copy to the new computer which has windows vista and windows mail. Thanks.

Hi,

There "seems" to be facilities for this. Can you go through (exactly) the steps you tried to go through to perform the export/import.

For example, it should be something like this:

Export:

File->Import and Export...->Export to a file [NEXT>]->Comma Separated Values (Windows)[NEXT]

Import:

File->Import and Export...->Import from file[NEXT>]->Comma Separated Values (Windows)[NEXT]

it was exactly as you wrote except for the import bit. When you try to import, the options are to import from Outlook Express 6 or 4. There is no import from a file. I know the mistake I made now, and will know next time. But thanks for your help.
