Glossary - Starting Page?   (Date posted: 08/03/05 at 14:43:34) Quote Modify Delete

Hi, I've poked around through the documentation and tried everything I could think of...

I can't figure out how to form a URL that will show the glossary application, initially within the frameset view, but with either no term displayed or, even better, a "Welcome to the Glossary, here's how to use it" page in the definition pane.

I've tried using a URL that ends in

but that returns a definition pane with

.

Any ideas or suggestions?

donv,

Well, I'm not following my own advice here but for a general site-wide link to your glossary, you'd probably want to link to the term that is most representative of the subject of your site. For example, if your site is about gardening then...

.../ GetTerm.pl?fsGetTerm=garden

The glossary here at Creativyst.com links to 802.11 or something similarly obscure. Some day I'll change that.

Of course you could also have a term: "Glossary", that includes a welcome page as its definition and link to that

.../ GetTerm.pl?fsGetTerm=glossary

Helloo all, i havbe just bought the script and am looking through its features. the reason i am in here now is i am looking for the base url or homepage.
+++++++

so, in essence there is no "homepage".
That is a bit of a pain when you wnat to use the script as an actual website.
Is there any way of getting a basic page without the script having to refer to a keyword ?

Hello #49753,

I'm sorry to say, there is currently no way to have a ... what shall we call it ... "front porch" page, where you are not actually in a term in the glossary, but you are within glossary.

It would help a lot if you could more specifically define what you are trying to do with this "front" page. Could you just use a static page with a link into the glossary? Even if you want to include links to all the letters, you can do that in a static page. You can even include links to individual key-phrases in static pages.

There may be reasons why these don't work. How about a phrase "Home Page", which is simply a welcome page (this won't work if your site is about building web-sites, of course). You could include this as one of your phrases, and also include a static-link to it in your templates, so that there is always a way to get to it.

You have some number of months within which to download updates (I don't remember how many it is for glossary). Generally, I haven't done too many updates of these little scripts as of late, but they do get changed occasionally.

P.S. Just in case... If you would prefer a refund, let me know within two or three weeks. That way, Paypal will refund the transaction fee as well.

I have changed my login from a number (#49753) as I think it is easier to identify who everyone is talking to.
Ok, back the the thread

I wanted to use this script for a new site that would contain only this script (www.mysite.com), so i was hoping that the .com/index page would be this scripts homepage.
From what you say, it looks like i will have to do an index page maybe with a redirect or even an intro page with a button linked to the script via
.../ GetTerm.pl?fsGetTerm=home

Thank you for the offer of a refund but i am just staring to explore the script and feel its morally wrong to ask for one.

Im sure i will have more questions

CtrlAltDel,

No problem, just letting you know that if it turns out that it doesn't address your needs there is a time issue to think about.

I'm scratching my head a bit reading your comment. Why is it morally wrong to return a product that you can not use because it doesn't meet your needs?
