Code Division Mulitple Access: CDMA is a first generation digital (
2G) cellular tellephone technology that uses
spread spectrum radio transmissions.
When implemented in a cellular telephone system, CDMA technology offeres numerous benefits over AMPS analog systems, including:
- Capacity improves 8 to 10 times over an analog system.
- Improved call quality
- Enahanced privacy
- Increased talk time (battery life) on mobile phones.
CDMA will eventually be replaced with
2.5G and
3G technology such as
CDMA2000 1zRTT, CDMA2000 1xEVDO,
WCDMA, and I-CDMA.
