An object-oriented programming language developed by Sun Microsystems, Inc. used to create applets that can be distributed over the World Wide Web. Java programs run in a simulated environment called a Java Virtual Machine (JVM). This allows them to be run without modification on any system that has a JVM installed.
Examples of systems with JVMs include palm computers, PDAs, desktop computers, and cell phones.
