SNMP - An application level protocol (within the TCP/IP suite) that provides support for the exchange of network management messages and infomration among hosts, including a host that supports a nework management, or network control, center.
The protocol provides a limited repertoire of functions and is aimed at optimizing the processing of a few simple operatinos upon which network management can be built.
SNMP is designed to opperate over UDP.
